I was a big fan of HP earlier, but now I am not.

Let me share my personal experience with HP, their lousy and low quality product.
I purchased an HP TX1320US (Turion 64 X2 TL-60 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Vista Home Premium) tablet PC last year from JLR, NYC. At the time of purchase I was in two minds; whether to buy Apple Macintosh or HP TX 1000 series. Due to convincing selling of JLR rep, I decided to buy HP TX 1320 US.
It has been working fine for about an year. Thought it was a good decision and I have partnered with a good company. However the laptop died within 13 months. Just imagine, exactly 1 month after warranty expiration the laptop died.
I faced following problems with the HP TX1320US laptop:
I complaint to HP and wrote emails to various people within HP to get my laptop repaired. Well writing to CEO of HP had some impact. I was contacted by HP and the laptop was repaired for free.
Though the laptop worked well for about two months, but it again showed signs of the same problem and last week it died completely. I am really at loss of words now.
This time I am feeling really helpless and looking for a permanent solution to my problem. My experience with HP is disastrous and its really unacceptable to have this kind of problem on a 1 year-old computer. Interestingly, HP does not acknowledge this problem and apparently they are not planning any recalls on this defective product.
Request you to please sign our petition asking HP to recall this defective laptop.

Ok same problem one day my computer starts acting funny then black screen and lights. Well I have been looking all over the web and found on You Tube a maybe fix how to. You tube title “HP tx1000 no boot / black screen / motherboard repair”. I rely on my computer and hope that HP might be able to come up with a better alternative but thought this might make people see it.
*Has your Laptop failed?
*Out of Warranty and discovered you don’t qualify for an Extended Warranty?
*Stone-walled by a Support Case Manager?
*Fed up getting fobbed off by HP?
If your answer is ‘YES’ to any of the above try turning up the heat by e-mailing HP’s chairman
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/execteam/email/hurd/index.html
The following is an excerpt from an article written for TG Daily by Wolfgang Gruener :
The failures are caused by a solder bump that connects the I/O termination of the silicon chip to the pad on the substrate. In Nvidia’s GPUs, this solder bump is created using high-lead. A thermal mismatch between the chip and the substrate has substantially grown in recent chip generations, apparently leading to fatigue cracking. Add into the equation a growing chip size (double the chip dimension, quadruple the stress on the bump) as well as generally hotter chips and you may have the perfect storm to take high lead beyond its limits. Apparently, problems arise at what Nvidia claims to be “extreme temperatures” and what we hear may be temperatures not too much above 70 degrees Celsius. End of excerpt.
If you are a UK consumer and are having problems with your HP Laptop take it back to the store you bought it from and demand a refund under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. Don’t worry if it’s out of Warranty you have up to 6 years (5 in Scotland) to raise the issue under this Act although you may have to prove the goods were not of ’satisfactory quality’ and the fault was inherent. Do an internet search to find numerous examples of HP laptop failures and check out HP’s own user forums to support your claim. The DV6000 series in particular seems prone to failure and HP offered an Extended Warranty service to some but not all consumers whose laptops showed symptoms such as losing wireless access, failure to boot up, blank screens etc. It would appear that eventually the motherboard needs to be replaced due to an alleged overheating graphics card, cheap solder and poor cooling. For non UK consumers check out any consumer protection laws that may apply in your country.

Hi,
I wanted to see if I could escalate my issue with HP. I am having the same problem. Might I be able to get the same contacts that you offered to April in a previous post? Thank you for putting your personal time and energy into this effort. Also I have a facebook fan page about this issue and other complaints. I encourge you and anyone else to become to help the cause.

Time to buy an Apple
I have been having the same problems for the last 2 months with my HP pavilion TX1410 being on with blue lights, however the screen was black. the only way to fix was to turn computer off and do a system restore. This week I went to turn on and I only hear a click. Blue lights turn on for 1 second and back off. No way to get it to work. I called HP for support and I was told my computer is out of warranty by 6 months and that I need to pay $99 for them to troubleshoot the problem over the phone and then if it determined that it is a hardware issue I will need to pay to have it fixed. This computer is only 18 months old. It is a piece of junk. The rep on the phone told me he was not sure it was a hardware issue and tha only paying he would be able to determine that. I have never heard of such BS.
The sad thing is that my desktop is a 3 and 1/2 year old HP media center 6 months out of warranty that is also having problems recognizing devices plugged into USB ports.
I WILL NEVER BUY A HP COMPUTER EVER AGAIN.
hello. i have had a tx1000z since december 2007. it gets hot. a few days ago my laptop wouldnt turn on. i see the screen is black and all the LED lights are on. it doesnt seem to be recognizing the hard drive.
i bought a dv2000 for my sister back in september 2007. that thing was really hot. so hot that it could cause a second degree burn. her battery was not able to keep charge anymore as it would only charge up to 6%. hp had a battery recall but somehow my sister’s dv2000 did not qualify.
i am really upset with HP. my first computer was a compaq presario. we barely had enough money to buy it in 2001. but it was a good computer. i still have it.
just a few months ago after my sister’s dv2000 died, i bought her an acer. so now i have a dead dv2000 and a soon to be dead tx1000z. i will boycott HP for the rest of my life.
i will never recommend HP to my friends and family. i am the tech guy in the family and i always recommended HP’s, but not anymore.
i might make the switch to apple.
Mine is TX1320US, s/n CNF74276BX, same problem, three days ago (091409)shut it down and turn it on but no Boot, blank screen, take RAM out, batt. out, unplug AC/DC cable, turn sw on to reset for 1 minute, put them back on and turn computer on, no Boot, still blank creen, thermo fan still running fine, recharge batt function is fine, put Recovery TX1000 DVD in to boot, DVD seems to read then stop. I keep trying to turn sw on and hopefully it will boot but no luck ?
My WLAN went missing last week (tx1320us), and I fear what is going to happen next
I purchased my tx1320us January 2008, shortly after hp warrenty expired the wireless boardcom lan card driver comes up missing. I sent it out for repair and got it back it worked fine for 2 months, same thing happened again. I sent it out for repair got it back 2 months later same thing happens again. I send it back for repairs for the 3rd time and it was the same old problem. Again I get it back and 2weeks later it will not boot at all, it is totally dead I send it out for the 4th time and each time they have replaced the motherboard and once they replaced the harddrive. I agree with you all something needs to be done hp needs to recall this laptop. I purchased two Hp tx1320us laptops one for my daughter and one for myself. I guess you can say my daughter was lucky hers was stolen and she don’t have to put up with the hassles we are having to deal with. I guess whoever stole her laptop thought they was getting something worth something. LOL She had renters insurance so she got all her money back for her computer now if we could just get hp to do the same thing.
Consumerist posted my TX experience:
http://consumerist.com/5349205/reader-says-hp-knows-old-laptops-are-rotten-doesnt-care
I also think that what this problem needs is a little media attn. from our local newsgroups as well to help get the ball rolling on this recall for units that dont have one and need them Someone should call them I think Ill start in ft worth Texas its where im from maybe since hp wont listen to each of us individually maybe the press can make them listen to us as a group
MY FELLOW HP LAPTOP OWNERS THERE IS A SOLUTION
hi everyone i would like to start by telling everyone that i can relate to all the problems that each of you listed above the wifi the overheating AND IT SUXS HP is suppose to be the top of line computer they have been around awhile now and to find out these problems are all caused by a simple bad design and placement of hardware on the inside and that if your like myself and just about every other red blooded american in this country with a computer u turn it on and leave it on, we dont turn it off every 30 or 40 mins to cool it off while we refresh our drink or when we leave the room to take a potty break. This is what causes these problems in all of our computers its getting to hot and the graphics card starts to melting and pulling away from whats holding it to the motherboard and im here to tell you that IF YOU STILL HAVE THE BLUE LIGHTS whenever you try to power up the computer THERE IS STILL HOPE !!!!!!!!!! YOu see i have one of these almost 2000.00 dollar computers and when mine started this having problem it became an almost 2000.00 dollar paper weight for a few months while i talked to everyone I know and researched and found that there are so many others that are just like myself who are completely discussed with hp and their lack of concern for our hard earned money that we each spent on one of their machines. SORRY ENOUGH RAMBLING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found a post amongst all my digging and research That said if you 1. take out the battery- overheating could cause the battery to start a fire 2. Plug in the power cord 3.Turn the power on 4.Take a towel and wrap your computer up in the towel so that the heat cant escape 5. wait for 30 to 40 mins and pull the power cord 6. THIS IS IMPORTANT leave the computer in the towel allowing it to cool down slowly and on its own About 15 min and then take it out and let it finish cooling off the rest of the about 15 more mins. 7.THE BEST PART plug in your power cord and watch your computer come back to life. See overheating the computer again allows it to melt back together . THIS IS NOT A JOKE I HAVE USED THIS TRICK MORE THAN 10 TIMES NOW because it still continues to overheat and now that is what im trying to find an answer to now HOW TO STOP THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY so until then I will keep using this trick and would like to offer my thanks to the person who I first read this post from but I cant remember what sight i was on when i read it and have looked through history and still no luck so thank you my fellow hp computer owner and friend for your wisdom. Im sorry that I called you crazy when I first read what you had written but you have to admit using a problem to fix a problem sounds a little strange. AND YES HP YOU SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM IT IS JUST BAD DESIGN
Same problem as mentioned by other people: overheating, increased frequency of boot failure, then finally, not able to boot. The power cord led is on. The on bloard leds will flick for a second when the power button is pushed, then dead. This is 14 months old computer.
HP need to recall this product!
Using ubuntu-linux os, forcing the processor to the lowest speed, cleaning the laptop fans and vents, and updating both the BIOS and the nVidia driver (version 180) have helped my tx1000 with the overheating issue. Good enough for web surfing and running basic programs. I am disappointed about this laptop (tx1000) though.
NO VUELVO A COMPRAR NINGUN PRODUCTO HP O COMPAQ O LO QUE SE RELACIONE CON ESA MARCA, ES UN ASCO, YA ME TIENE HASTA LA MADRE EL PROBLEMA DEL WIFI, Y PARECE QUE HP NO HA TOMADO CARTAS EN EL ASUNTO!
Hi, I bought HP tx1320us sept. 2007 online, just around june 2008, the machine would not boot( blue lights on power) but basically just black screen staring back at me, had the machine sent back to HP which was still under warranty. Just 2 months ago, wi-fi connected suddenly disappeared, (had a friend checked it, since iam not technically savvy, and said it must be the internal wireless network card, told me to buy USB wireless network card so i can go wireless on my laptop), working wired connection right now, just decided to check online and google HP tx1320 wireless network adapter….lo and behold, the number of people with the same problem with this junk HP has sold. It made me angry and disheartened at what a piece of crap i have bought from HP and how many people they have duped from their hard earned cash with the machine not even lasting more than 3 to 5 years for that amount. And this wi-fi thing just have a mind of its own, last night i tried, there was blue light on wi-fi connection and i have wireless connection again and then when i turned this computer on this morning it was gone again…..I would not be surprised at all if this thing would just have a black screen if i booted it on anyday from now judging from the number of posts and complaints.
PS. my friend told me he had another exact same model as mine HP tx1320 from a co-worker of his, which boots to just black screen with power on.
I had to send my Pavilion tx1320us back several times for the same repairs. Within 9 months, I have the same issue with my mother board. So the repair will in the upper $400 and I could buy a better system for that price.
Windows 7 has given my machine a new life. It was only booting up one in ten times, but since I installed Windows 7 it boots up over 90% of the time. I would like to know if this has worked for anyone else

Wireless went dead, and a month later the whole computer dies. Talked to costumer service but they wernt any help at all. SOMTHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!
Nov. 2007 – I purchased the tx1320us for $1250 after rebate.
8 months later.
July. 2008 – Cooling fan started to rapidly click, as if loose.
Aug. 2008 – Wireless card became occassionally unresponsive.
Sept. 2008 – Screen remained black for 10-15 min. at start-up.
Sept. 2008 – Wireless card stopped working completely.
Sept. 2008 – The fan’s clicking became extremely loud.
Sept. 2008 – Made 6 calls to HP over a 2 week period. I told them I was having problems with the wireless card, the cooling fan, and the GPU. I suspected there was damage from overheating. After several troubleshooting sessions with each session lasting between 1-2 hours (including 1 instance when I held my phone next to the fan and the rep. replied that it sounded like a beat up Volkswagon), HP agreed to send me a box for the service center.
Oct. 2008 – Received box, and shipped box to HP repair center.
Oct. 2008 – Box sent back. They said they could not duplicate the problems. Nothing was fixed on the laptop.
Oct. 2008 – Laptop screen finally dies completely.
Oct. 2008 – Called HP again, and after another 4 calls, they agree to send me another box.
Nov. 2008 – Warranty expires while laptop is still being serviced.
Nov. 2008 – Box sent back. They said they only replaced the wireless card and fan. They said that the screen was working when the laptop arrived to their service center.
Dec. 2008 – Screen dies again. Called HP and at first they told me that my laptop is out of warranty, and they tried to refuse me service. However, I knew that according to HP policy, if a computer is serviced, the service has a warranty of 90 days, even if the original warranty expires. After speaking to 3 reps, and after telling them their own policy, they agree to send me a box. This time, I specifically said to, “add a note for the service center to repair the motherboard because it is overheating!!”
Dec. 2008 – Received box, and shipped it out to be serviced.
Jan. 2009 – Computer is returned. Form from service center reported that the motherboard was replaced, and that it was damaged from overheating.
Jan. 2009 – Called HP to inquire about getting an extended warranty plan. They refused to give me that standard price for the plan, they offered me a plan double the standard price. I suspected that they knew the problem would likely happen again.
July 2009 – Everything is still working fine. However, I do worry that the motherboard will become damaged again because of overheating.
From my service report forms, and 20+ hours of troubleshooting over the phone, I concluded the following:
1 – No problems with the software. All drivers were properly installed. I had to do 2 factory restores to reach this conclusion.
2 – Wireless card itself was defective.
3 – Laptop’s extremely hot temperature can easily damage the motherboard. In my case, the soldering on the GPU was damaged. This is a known issue with the NVIDIA chipset on this laptop.
The only bright side in my case is that because my cooling fan became loose, the overheating problem happened a few months earlier than it should have. “Luckily” the loose fan sped up the motherboard damage so that it happened while I was still in warranty. Just to give you an idea of how hot the laptop got… the first time I had a “minor” burn, it left a painful red mark on my thigh. The pain lasted for a few hours, but the red mark lasted for about 10 days. The heat also damaged the finish on my wood desk.
To help prevent my laptop from overheating again, I bought a glass desk, and a raised cooling platform for my laptop. Hopefully this works, and prevents the motherboard from dying anytime soon.
Thank you for reading my testimonial. Signed, Carlos.
I had the same problem about two month ago. My computer is the tx1014us and 6 months after warranty expired same problem as EVERYONE ELSE. Talked to customer service and won’t do anything about it. We need to get everyone that has this problem to call customer service in order for them to do a recall on the notebooks. If hey don’t get a high number of victims there is no chance to get a repair for free. A plan to get to HP would be to get the press. I’m sure HP wil solve this matter then.
I also have the same problem with my HO tx1000 POS. One month after the warranty expired, the wi-fi went out. No problem, I just got a USB wireless device which solved the problem for me, but not for HP.
Then, within a week, the system would not boot. Same as everyone. Lights came but nothing on the screen. I did contact HP and was told by the tech that he had never heard of the problem and that it would cost $400 to repair. I then sent a message directly to the CEO about the problem. I was immediately contacted by a support manager that did acknowledge that they had a mother board problem and were replacing certain model numbers, but not mine. He offered to have it fixed for $200.00. So while acknowledging that the machine did have a problem, they still refused to do the right thing and get it repaired AT NO COST. I sent ANOTHER message to CEO telling him about what shoddy support system they employ, and that as a project manager (PMP Certified), I would do everything in my power to never purchase another HP machine and that ANY company I ever worked with would never get the recommendation from me to acquire HP equipment. Then I got another call from a higher support manager, but he still refused to fix the machine at no cost. He tried convince me that at $200.00, I was getting a great deal. NO DEAL!
HO sucks. Their hardware is crappy. There support is meaningless and useless. Don’t buy HP equipment unless you want to deal with a bunch of liers and cheats.
Just one man’s opinion.

I have 2 friends with the same laptop as me, tx1320us, and my b/f has a dv2000. All of which have died, just about the time the warranties expired. Guess how many got fixed? My b/f’s dv2000, which had the same problem as all the TXs. If its the same problem as all the other models they have recalled, it’s simply ridiculous that they won’t recall these. HP is a dirty company, and I keep telling everyone I know not to let HP screw them too.
Same thing. WiFi went a few months ago, and now the boot up problem is happening. It will boot up one in seven times. Has anyone loaded Windows 7 to see if it helps? The only way to get a recall would be if there was some bad media coverage of the situation for HP.
I have a HP Pavilion tx 1320us. my wireless stopped working three weeks ago. I bought this notebook in october 2007. It worked fine for a year or so and it started over heating and the fan would always be on. There seems to be a problem with the processor or the circuitry. I checked the fan vents and they are clean. I clean them up with a dust remover often, still the heating problem does not stop. I guess the wireless stopped working due to overheating.
I have the same problem with 2 tx1320 that were purchased the same day. They both died within a month of eachother. 16 months after purchase of course. I’m getting the same run around about the warrenty but will not give up. Class action needs to take place….count me in.
Hey all,
I just wanted to let you know that after having my notebook sit in the corner of my room for about a month now (b/c it’s useless/ won’t turn on!) I got a response from HP, by contacting the Better Business Bureau to complain about the TX1000Z notebook.
I contacted the BBB about a month ago, in hopes of getting HP’s attention about the issues w/ this notebook. Early this morning, I got a call from a case manager at HP (Mr. James McAarthur). He asked me to tell him what was going on, clearly he already knew b/c he had the letter I wrote to the BBB right in front of him. Right from the start, this guy sounded cold/heartless and he didn’t seem to give a damn if I got it fixed or not… What he basically told me was, the repair is approximately $400 and he’s willing to lower the repair costs on my part by 50%, making my out of pocket cost $200. This $200 repair will also come w/ a one year warranty. I told him that was very steep still, so he gave me another option. The second option I have is paying $150 out of pocket, and I would get NO warranty.(so at this point I assume he knows there are major issues w/ the tx1000’s motherboards to assume that the cost is that much, without even asking me to send it in for an ‘inspection’ . Or he’s taking my word for it that the motherboard is an issue.)
The repair cost is outrageous, seeing that it wasn’t even MY FAULT that it’s broken! I paid $850 for this tablet…putting in another $200 is ridiculous. All my documents, songs, and pictures were on this notebook. Not to mention, my hard drive has the same issue I had experienced when I first purchased it. The hard drive still has a bad sector on it! This notebook has so many issues and Mr. McArthur claims that there hasn’t been many complaints coming in about this notebook. (THAT MADE ME ANGRY, and I told him I don’t believe him!)
I’m kind of backed into the corner here… What should I DO?? I have his #, should I call him back and take him up on this offer? I’ve already purchased a Dell Mini-desktop because of this tablet failure. What to do…what to do. Any inputs?
Hi everyone,
I am a member of a Yahoo group called Recalltx1000. We have about 140 members.
We are currently working together to try and seek a fair remedy from HP for the systemic problems with tx1000-series. We are hoping that by acting collectively we can receive a fairer result (e.g., a warranty extension and free repairs), as well as a better customer service experience.
In about one week, we will post to our group a draft letter of complaint and give people an opportunity to comment. Then we will work to get signatories. If anyone here would like to comment on that letter, sign it, or just learn more about our group please visit us at: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Recalltx1000/. We are also working on contacting PC and tech magazines/websites to attempt to garner some positive publicity for our cause.
I signed this petition and am so excited this group exists. Maybe if we all work together, we can get the result we deserve.
All the best,
Catherine
I agree guys!! my tx1340ea had the same problem.. n i got it fixed by calling in warranty service even thou it was out of warranty.. try ur luck wid my technique.. but am nt sure if my motherboard will last long coz it produces lots of heat n thr is a chance for it to die again.. so yea.. it’s bettr every1 needs to contact business bureau..
I agree about everyone needing to contact the Better Business Bureau. That is going to be my next step – earlier today I contacted my HP case manager again today in one last effort to let them fix their problem, and I was told that since I have turned down their offer to replace my motherboard (for the fourth time) at a 50% discount, my case was going to be closed.
